Corporate Sustainability
Global One defines Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as living the values and principles that govern the way we operate as an organisation and behave as individuals. It is about ensuring we sustain safe operations; have a positive impact on our people, the communities we work with, the environment and humankind.
Global One follows a philosophy that ensures the development of systems, solutions and procedures that create and deliver sustainable value in relation to the safety of operations, our impact on the environment and engagement in the community.
Ethics in Decision Making
The goal at Global One is that all decisions, at all levels, are to encompass objectivity and fairness. To this end, the management team have developed three criteria we expect our staff to consider before making decisions:
- Transparency – am I happy to make my decision public – especially to the people affected by it?
- Effect – have I fully considered the harmful effects of my decision and how to avoid them?
- Fairness – would my decision be considered fair by everyone affected by it? Consider all stakeholders – the effects of decisions can be far-reaching.
Objectivity in Decision Making:
When striving for objectivity in making decisions, Global One feels that there are several variables to consider – in one combination or another. The list below is non-exhaustive, and simply highlights some of the key components we promote our staff to consider:
- Adopt: Informed, enlightened, educated and truly objective views.
- Seek the majority views.
- What are the significant minority views?
- What are the unrepresented very small minority views?
- How will this decision impact the society and/or situation?
- What are the short-term and long-term effects?
- The greater good’ … what are the other options and their consequences? What are the costs or implications of my selected choice?
- What are the cultural issues?
- Have you considered issues of personal conscience, of those affected? Avoid relying on your own ideas of ‘faith’ or ‘belief’ or ‘what is right’, because this will not be the view held by many persons affected by your decision.
- What, if any are the religious influences and personal beliefs, of those affected, rather than just Global One.
Behaving Ethically
By behaving in an ethical manner, with humanity, compassion, and with proper consideration for the world beyond the boardroom and the shareholders, Global One firmly believes that there are huge organisational advantages:
- Competitive advantage – customers favour providers and suppliers who demonstrate responsibility and ethical practices. Failure to do so means lost market share, and shrinking popularity, which reduces revenues, profits, and other results the organisation seeks to achieve.
- Better staff attraction and retention – the best staff want to work for truly responsible and ethical employers. Failing to be a good employer results in the loss of good staff, and reduces the likelihood of attracting good new-starters. This pushes up costs and undermines performance and efficiency. Aside from this, good organisations simply can’t function without good people.
- Investment – investors want to invest in organisations which demonstrate integrity and responsibility in all facets of their behaviour.
- Morale and culture – staff who work in a high-integrity, socially responsible, globally considerate organisation are far less prone to stress, attrition and dissatisfaction. Therefore they are happier and more productive. Happy productive people are a common feature in highly successful organisations. Stressed unhappy staff are less productive, take more time off, need more managing, and also take no interest in sorting out potential organisational failings.
- Reputation –building brand awareness and organisational credibility is complicated. Ethical responsible organisations such as Global One are far less prone to scandals and disasters. And if one does occur, we will automatically know how to deal with it quickly and openly and honestly.
- Legal and regulatory reasons – Global One welcomes rigorous and strict standards and compliance mechanisms. We feel that transparency and accountability with our clients and partners is a necessary requirement before business can be conducted.
